At Galloway House Estate, we host year-round writing retreats to bring creatives together to share and learn. In addition to retreats and holiday rentals, we support creative residencies for writers and artists. Our artists’ studio in the Stables courtyard is available for use and can be reserved with a lodge or apartment.

To encourage residencies, we offer special accommodation rates and extended stays, especially outside the busy summer season.

Writing Retreats
Join Marjorie Lotfi for residential writing retreats by the sea at the Galloway House Estate.
The 2025 week-long retreats offer five days of fully catered meals, daily creative writing sessions (held indoors or outdoors, weather permitting), several evenings of entertainment, and an hour of personalized 1-1 feedback. There are also days of free time to write, relax, or explore the stunning local beaches, woodlands, nearby villages—including Scotland’s National Book Town, Wigtown—and the local café and pub. Yoga and massage may also be available during the retreat.

Creative Residencies.
At Galloway House Estate, we are dedicated to supporting creative residencies for writers and artists. Our peaceful setting offers the perfect environment to focus and create. We provide a dedicated artists’ studio in the Stables courtyard, available to reserve alongside one of our lodges or apartments. The studio offers freedom to create without the need to worry about keeping things tidy—ideal for painting, writing, or any artistic pursuit.

Many artists have found inspiration in the natural beauty of the estate, with its tranquil surroundings and magical colours. To support your stay, we offer special accommodation rates and longer stays, particularly during our quieter seasons outside of summer.
